Hi, I’m Faith, and I love food.
That’s a fairly ubiquitous statement, so let me be more specific. I am constantly thinking about food. Whether it’s the sheer delight I experience in the kitchen, measuring my days based on when I can feasibly eat my next meal, or planning meals in my head while I drift off to sleep, food is always on the brain. I feel like I’ve been obsessing over food since birth⎯probably before then, too⎯and some of my earliest, fondest memories revolve around food.
I’m a self-taught cook and baker, obsessed with cookbooks, cooking shows, and food blogs. And, if you count a Little Tikes kitchen set and velcro vegetables, I’ve been cooking since I was barely tall enough to reach the kitchen counter. I still clearly remember the first time I was allowed to bake on my own: I made chocolate chip cookies and narrated my actions like I was on a cooking show. Completely in my own world, I barely realized my mom had been watching from the doorway the whole time. Regardless of family members strolling through the kitchen over time, I continued to pretend I was the host of a cooking show for years. It was my favourite game.
Playing around in the kitchen is still my favourite thing to do
These days, with a busy work week and a 9-5 office job, cooking and baking are my escape; they help me decompress after a long day. Moreover, living in a one-bedroom apartment presents me with the challenge of cooking in fairly cramped quarters (featuring adorable yet frustrating apartment-sized appliances). The combination of these factors means my weeknight meals have to be easy, healthy, and budget-friendly. Of course, I also love challenging myself, and constantly seek to create new, fun recipes within these parameters.
I believe cooking should be a totally enjoyable, enriching experience. Food doesn’t have to have a complicated list of ingredients and instructions to be both. In my opinion, the best part about cooking is how freeing it is, and how seemingly simple things can come together to create a truly magical experience when shared with loved ones.
Welcome to my blog!
Some of the other things I love include:
- The colour mint
- Jane Austen novels
- Talking about food with other food-obsessed individuals (Yes, this is absolutely an invitation to reach out whenever!)
